Veturi Sundararama Murthy Passed Away - Died of Heart Attack

Veturi Sundararama Murthy (29 January 1936 - 22 May 2010) (popularly known as Veturi) is a Telug poet more popular for his film songs. He is a disciple of the legendary Viswanatha Satyanarayna.


Early life

Veturi was born in kolluru near Tenali located in Guntur district in AP, in a Telugu Brahmin family.


Career

While working as a journalist, Veturi got his first break in movies through Dr.K.Viswanath. Later, he would go on to pen hundreds of songs. NT Rama Rao, the legendary actor of Telugu movies, did a number of movies with him.

He worked as journalist for prominent magazines like Andhra Patrika and Andhra Prabha before becoming a lyricist. Veturi wrote a large variety of songs ranging from classic poetry to the folk and mass ones. He is also the second lyricist from Telugu film indurstry to win the National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the song Raalipoye puvva neeku ragaalenduke from the Movie Maathrudevobhava in the year 1994. However, he gave back the award since Telugu was not recognized as an ancient language.

Veturi is a relative of the late Sri Veturi Prabhakara Sastri.

The great lyricist died of heart attack in Care Hospitals, Hyderabad on 22nd May 2010.
